Weekly update 4/15/09

OK. Heathers brothers are gone.  We had a great visit with them.  While they were here we did take time off school and relax and enjoy them.

We have now started back to school and are looking to be finished by the first of July.  We do feel like we are starting to understand the basic grammar but still have miles to go with vocabulary and actually speaking.

Just before they arrived we did submit Sam’s paperwork for His US Citizenship and have now been contacted by the embassy.  We are scheduled for an interview on May 7th.   We know this is the next step but we do not know if we will get Sam’s passport then or if there will be more to do.  Please keep praying for this important step.

Holy week here in the Philippines is a very big deal that puts more emphasis on Good Friday than they put on the resurrection.  Many Filipinos practice self flagellation and some even have themselves crucified.  Some believe it is a work that they can use to pay for sin and gain favor from God.  Some appear to be paid actors who put on displays for those unwilling to do it themselves.  On our street there was a group of the latter.  I got some pictures and will post the link to them.   WARNING  These are fairly graphic pictures, and there is real blood.  It is sad to see but it is real here in the Philippines.
Thank you for your prayers as we prepare to be able to share truth with people who have been lied to their whole lives.
